Luckily the rain held off and our team of 16 riders all crossed the finish line before the skies opened. This year our team welcomed five new riders, including Hemenway parents Brenda Dostie and Patty Hebert. Hemenway teachers Michelle Gibson and Becky Lepow returned for a second year and completed the 50 mile ride! Our team raised $15,325 this year, including more than $500 of donations from the Hemenway staff. Team Whatevros has now raised over $65,000 in three years for the National Brain Tumor Society. Although my brother Brian was unable to ride alongside us this year, it was for a wonderful reason. Brian and his wife will welcome their first baby in just a few weeks! With the perfect MRI he had at Duke on Tuesday, a baby on the way, and the hundreds of supporters behind him, he is floating on cloud nine. Miracles do happen!

Thank you to everyone who donated so generously! Your support is so greatly appreciated.

Ms. NolanPatty Heberthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09546221946096203283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6153138632734936968.post-17126165685411962252011-05-13T10:16:00.000-07:002011-05-13T10:18:27.987-07:00Jumping For JapanHemenway Elementary School students raised $5,000 jumping for Japan. There is a climbing wall in Hemenway's future and to help raise the funds necessary, this unique fund raiser was put together. For over two hours, each afternoon, the students climbed the cargo nets, and the ropes as well as participated in many other fun activities.

Feedback from my own daughter was, "It was a blast! Can I do that again?"

The three day event raised $1271 towards their goal of $8,000!

Thank you Hemenway parents for supporting Physical Education at our school.

Anyone wanting to make a donation please contant Mrs. Cap.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6153138632734936968.post-18219696022997932872010-11-12T15:22:00.000-08:002010-11-12T15:24:31.142-08:00Jump Rope for Heart
Last month all Physical Education classes participated in the Jump Rope for Heart program sponsored by the American Heart Association. They were encouraged to go home and share information with parents about all the progress made during the week.

Donations were made and collected based on conversations and communication between home and school. We plastered and dry walled all day, while also having a good time talking and sharing stories. One of the neatest parts was seeing all of the special messages other volunteers had written on the unfinished studs in the walls. Messages like "We wish you many years of happiness in your new house!", or "People make a house a home" filled the house with love.

~Amy
Ms. Brown - ArtUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6153138632734936968.post-60466444506972331722010-04-08T04:26:00.000-07:002010-04-08T04:36:14.557-07:00SHHHHHH!
